1. parallel structure
2. modifiers (misplaced or dangling)
3. who/whom
4. clear pronoun reference
5. punctuating dialogue (including interrupted)
6. active versus passive voice
3rd period-7. colon usage

POETRY ANTHOLOGIES DUE TUESDAY!!!!!!

   Anthologies should be in the following order:
1. Creative cover with graphics, title, and your name
2. Introduction about you and what life experiences inspired or influenced the poems (minimum 2 paragraphs)
3. 7 typed and annotated poems
4. Reflection (minimum 2 pages)

The reflection and intro should be double spaced, and the poems should be single spaced.

Be ready to take no more than 2 minutes to present a poem or two from your anthology on Tuesday. I am so very excited to discover more abou...

POETRY ANTHOLOGY DUE NEXT TUESDAY, FEB. 21ST

In addition to the cover page, introduction, and minmum 2 page reflection, your anthology should include at least 7 original, annotated poems like the ones below:

Poem types/qualities:

1.       Poem about poetry styled like Naruda’s “Poetry”

-free verse, repetition, strong verbs

 

2.       Coming-of-age poem like Giovanni’s “Nikki Rosa” and Lauryn Hill’s “Every Ghetto Every City”

-free verse, imagery, diction (specific to YOUR childhood places, games, etc.)

STUDY FOR THE TEST and weekened HW

3rd and 6th-root word test is tomorrow, so study!
2nd-root word test is Monday, so study over the weekend!

Your weekend homework is to complete the 2 pronoun/antecendent agreement packets and to also finalize the poems already written for your anthology. They should be typed and annotated, which will make them ready to be added to your anthology. Next week we will be very busy with new poems and a lot of grammar, so make the weekend HW a priority.

For tonight, be sure to finish the poem you started in class that includes allusions and hyperbole.

3rd and 6th period- our root words unit 2 test is this Friday. Study the song and the vocab sheets from the unit to prepare for the test. A word bank will be provided for you.

2nd period-Your root word test was voted to be on Monday. Study!
